Work in the Brickell area to install water pumps to prevent future flooding continues to advance and is now in its second phase.
The Brickell area, the city's financial center and one of the most important in the United States, is highly vulnerable to hurricanes, as was the case with Irma.
The infrastructure includes pumps and valves that drain up to 29 gallons of water per minute and pump it back out to sea and the Miami River. New, wider sewer lines and pipes will also be installed.
Of the $192 million approved by voters in 400, $2016 million has been invested in the construction of the Brickell area.
