A Cuban woman living in the United States expressed her sadness on social media over the recent layoffs of migrant colleagues at a Walmart store. Some of these workers, who lacked legal immigration status, were left without jobs after the company decided to lay off those whose TPS had expired.
"I only ask God to touch the hearts of all the people who make these decisions and to grant residency to all migrants, God," the Cuban woman wrote alongside the video where she explains the unfortunate incident, which is part of President Donald Trump's immigration policies.
With a faltering voice, she shared that although she keeps her position because she's a US resident, her colleagues weren't as lucky. "Fortunately, I have residency and didn't lose my job, but several colleagues did. What's happening is sad," she explained to her followers on the TikTok account @solgianlicas.
The woman said that six employees were laid off at her establishment, while other locations allowed them to stay until June 20. “The truth is, there are only a few of them, just six, but it's sad. You see them, they look at you, and you have to cry. To be kicked out like that, they have to pay rent and food,” the Walmart employee lamented.

“May God place his hand on the heart of every person who has anything to do with undocumented immigrants,” Sol said, supporting all the immigrants who, like his friends, go through sad situations and, in the most critical cases, end up arrested by various federal and state agencies on the streets or simply upon leaving a courthouse.
The Cuban woman's story has touched the hearts of thousands of internet users on social media, who are informed about the complicated immigration situation facing the nation. "It's very difficult, something terrible. We're all going to end up crazy somehow. This must have a solution. May God provide for those people who only came to work and achieve freedom in this great country where human rights were respected," said user lirio1079.xx.
The controversy has intensified in different states across the country due to the mass layoffs of employees with expired TPS at Walmart, which has particularly affected migrant communities.
According to CiberCuba, this measure impacts workers whose temporary residence and employment permits are no longer valid following the elimination of previous regulations.
