Appointment-selling ring discovered at Miami-Dade license offices

Recently, Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernández revealed an alarming situation affecting county residents: the dismantling of a network that sold driver's license appointments on the black market.

This illegal network has been causing significant delays for those needing to renew their licenses or complete other procedures. According to Fernández, citizens have been forced to wait months for an appointment, while a group of resellers stockpiled free appointments and then sold them at exorbitant prices, thus creating artificial demand and unnecessary barriers to accessing these essential services.

Commitment to Legality and Equal Access

In a statement, Dariel Fernandez emphasized that his office will not accept appointments obtained through this type of fraud. "We know who they are and how they operate; we will not accept any appointments obtained by abusing the system," he stated. The tax collector's office is collaborating with county authorities and the sheriff's office to bring those involved in this criminal activity to justice.

Additionally, residents have been warned that if someone offers to purchase an appointment, they could be throwing their money away, as fraudulent appointments will be rejected at the offices. "Our office is committed to ensuring all residents have fair and equal access to services," Fernandez added.

Actions to Improve Service

This problem is not new. Previously, there had been warnings about the presence of "coleros" (people who were arriving from Cuba and using illegal methods to secure spots in the queues. This situation has led the tax collector's office to implement measures to improve appointment availability and access to services.

Fernández announced that new offices are opening in areas like Miami Beach and are introducing technologies to automate processes and reduce wait times. "We all know that it used to be common to spend hours in a licensing office, even with an appointment. We hope these new measures will help ease that burden," he commented.

Legal Consequences for Those Involved

Selling appointments is not only illegal, but it also has serious repercussions for those who engage in these activities. "Do not purchase appointments from unregulated third parties; what should be free can turn into a legal problem for you," warned Fernández. The office is determined to eradicate these practices and protect citizens from falling victim to fraud.

The Voice of the Community

Residents are encouraged to share their recent experiences with county offices. Fernandez recently took office and is in the process of implementing significant changes to a system that has long been broken. "It's a challenge, but we are here to work for the well-being of our community," he concluded.

The Miami-Dade community hopes these measures mark the beginning of a positive change in access to driver's license services. Have you had any recent experiences with county offices? Share your comments and stay informed about the latest news and updates.

The most audacious are those who work inside, because of those there are those long lines every day, I spent the whole night to renew my license after 10 years, I took number 3 when it was my turn to go through they told me I didn't have the documentation, a rude woman who only works 2 hours a day and the rest of the time she's just chilling, made me leave the line, I had the paperwork, when I returned to the line she told me she didn't know me, I wasn't in that line, the doorman passed me because he knew that it used to be number 3.
