One woman was killed and five people were injured when a boat exploded at the Fort Lauderdale marina Monday afternoon.
The terrible incident captured by a surveillance camera EarthCam installed in the marina, took place shortly before 6:00 pm.
After receiving a call, the Broward County Fire Department immediately responded to the scene, finding that the fire had spread to another nearby vessel.
Divers and other boats were tasked with searching for a person who had disappeared in the waters of the marina, the woman who was found dead shortly after.
The five injured, three of whom were in critical condition, were taken to local hospitals in Fort Lauderdale.
Maria Sanz, a witness to the incident who was in a boat just a few meters from where the explosion occurred, said she saw "a boy tying up in front, there was a super loud explosion, and the only thing I saw was fire and materials from the boat falling on us."
The cause of the explosion is under investigation, and several agencies are working together to solve the tragic incident, including the U.S. Coast Guard, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), and the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.
