The next climax of hurricane season is approaching and the National Hurricane Center is closely monitoring several regions within the Atlantic basin. In particular, potential tropical cyclone nine has emerged in the Gulf of Mexico, targeting southern Texas with large amounts of rain.
The National Hurricane Center is also monitoring the progress of Tropical Storm Franklin, Tropical Storm Gert, and an additional tropical disturbance in the Atlantic.
Tropical Storm Emily is no longer monitored by the NHC as it has transitioned into a remnant low.
Tropical Storm Gert is currently in the heart of the Atlantic Ocean, located approximately 485 miles away on the eastern side of the Leeward Islands. According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Gert is accompanied by winds blowing at a speed of 40 miles per hour, moving west-northwestward at a speed of 9 miles per hour. The NHC predicts that this system will completely disintegrate by Monday afternoon.
