U.S. officials on Wednesday verified that only 10 undocumented immigrants arrived at Guantanamo Naval Base on Tuesday.
The identities of the targeted individuals remain unclear, but each has a criminal record of some kind.
Numerous reports from US officials have stressed that the most dangerous criminals will be sent to Guantanamo.
“The worst of the worst criminals will be held at the military facility. Donald Trump has been very clear: the worst of the worst will be held at Guantanamo Bay,” the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on X.
Also on social media, X CBP said: “Flights to Guantanamo Bay have begun. The worst of the worst have no place in our homeland.”
Kristi Noem, the current Secretary of Homeland Security, said: “The arrests in recent days include convicted murderers, rapists, child molesters, drug traffickers, MS-13 gang members, and cartel members. Under President Trump, the United States is no longer a safe haven for violent criminals.”
The Ministry of Defense released images indicating that the littoral combat ship USS St. Louis (LCS 19) is stationed at the Naval Base, whose crew is working together on the development of the Migration Operations Center within the framework of Operation Southern Guard, according to a statement.
«In compliance with an order from the President of the United States, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Defense (DOD) have deployed military personnel to support DHS-led deportation operations at the naval station. To execute this directive, U.S. Southern Command has established a Joint Migration Operations Task Force at the base.»
The images show a large number of military personnel setting up temporary shelters and various logistical facilities to improve the Migrant Operations Center.
The initial phase of this growth initiative will accommodate around 2.000 migrants, with later phases aimed at improving overall capacity.
