Authorities arrested a mother in Hialeah after two bystanders reported finding her children wandering undressed on the sidewalk near her home. Heidy Teressa Díaz-Torres, 25, is charged with a felony child neglect charge.
According to the Hialeah Police Department report, the two women noticed two naked children, one a year old and the other a three year old, wandering around Heidy Teressa's home at 700 West 37th Street around 3:00 p.m. last Tuesday.
The two witnesses told the police that one of the minors managed to tell them where his house was, and they accompanied him there in good faith. The text states that one of the women knocked on the window to warn the mother, but she ignored the warning and expelled them from the building.
"Upon approaching the residence, officers saw the children leaving unattended, and the mother was nowhere in sight," the report states. "Because of this, officers entered the residence believing the children could be in greater danger. Upon entering the residence, they asked her several times if she knew where her children were. She did not respond and stated (redacted)."
According to authorities, the mother may have been under the influence of unidentified substances. Once officers entered the home and examined the condition of the premises, they noticed two pipes containing traces of suspected methamphetamine.
Authorities reported they contacted the Florida Department of Children and Families, which arrived at the residence. As of today, the defendant remains at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with bail set at $2.500.
