USCIS continues to experience delays in processing applications for residency and naturalization

United States Citizenship

Delays continue at the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), mainly affecting the processes of applications for residence and citizenship.

According to News DirectoryA recent report found that there are around ten million cases backlogged, which has caused wait times to lengthen significantly.

Among the categories that face long waiting times for processing is Form I-130, adjustment of status for spouses of U.S. citizens, which currently take between 8 and 10 months.

Work permits for asylum seekers are experiencing waiting times of between 3.5 and 12 months, depending on the office that processes them. Currently, there are around 34.149 pending applications.

Meanwhile, work permits under adjustment of status take about two months for those who entered the United States with a humanitarian parole, and there are currently more than 34.000 pending applications.

At the same time, Form I-485, which is used to adjust status based on residence, has 1.464.504 pending applications, taking into account that for this process the waiting times are between 12.5 and 32.5 months, depending on the office that processes it, and the beneficiary in particular.

Similarly, green card renewals using the I-90 form are taking about 22.5 months.

As for petitions for naturalization, which normally take up to 24 months to be processed, there are some places in the US where the waiting times are shorter.

For example, a report of Univisiรณn 2023, announced that in cities such as Boise, Idaho, and Hialeah, Florida, the estimated wait times for the procedure are 7 and a half months.

However, in cities like Baltimore, Maryland, such applications are processed in approximately 17 months.

It is important to remember that USCIS typically processes cases in the order in which it receives applications.
