Recently, a developer announced that he has an ambitious mixed-use project between Wynwood and Overtown that will greatly modify part of the place without spoiling the culture it has, but providing its residents with new modern spaces within sustainability.

The new project will be known as Sowy and has been funded by a $76.81 million loan provided by the country's largest bank and one of the largest financial institutions on the planet: JP Morgan Chase.

The design calls for Sowy to use 26 parcels and eight acres along 2nd Avenue between NW 20th and 22nd Street to the east and southeast. The base buildable portion can only reach the required 2.5 million square feet.

Whitney Thier, president of More Development, said they are ready to begin the project that will give a new vision to the neighborhood, as well as provide new environments for people. “With the financing in place, we are ready to execute the initial phase of our plans to invigorate the neighborhood with a vibrant new environment where people can live, work, shop, dine and play in a pedestrian-friendly, art-filled environment,” Whitney explained.

Some preliminary images of the designs show spaces for residents and tourists to enjoy under the shade of palm trees, combined with a developed environment of shops and restaurants with typical dishes from various nationalities, as well as paths for walking and enjoying the Miami summer sun.

Wynwood, located in the center of North Miami, stands out for being a neighborhood of exuberant outdoor works of art by well-known international and American painters, who have turned the town into a museum that forces more than 3 million people to visit it annually and take photos of its hundreds of buildings painted in street style and enjoy them at affordable prices for all budgets.

Years ago, no one would have imagined that street art would be well-regarded by the community and tourists. However, today it is one of the most beautiful places in the city of Miami, which shows that street art is gaining in value and reflects a change in people's perception.

Street art is not only a form of visual expression, but also a means to connect with urban life, provoke dialogue and enrich our experience on the streets. Murals and graffiti on city walls beautify public spaces, turning grey areas into colourful canvases. All this combined with a new development project will make Wynwood even more beautiful and visited by people from all over the world.
