A 12-year-old boy drowned on a Fort Lauderdale beach, and dangerous ocean conditions will continue until at least tomorrow.

A child died while swimming at Fort Lauderdale beach on Friday amid strong rip currents. who have remained throughout the weekend, reported Local 10 News.

The 12-year-old boy, visiting from Lake Worth with the Team Jordan Basketball Club, was swimming with a group Friday when the water became "rough" and lifeguards intervened, according to the father of a teammate.


Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Fort Lauderdale Lifeguard Department announced that lifeguards managed to pull three of the four children swimming at the beach that day from the water. Divers found the child's body shortly afterward.

Joey Benoit, a tourist who came to South Florida from San Diego, said he was surprised by the rip currents on the beach.

"I'm from San Diego and I expected it to be quiet, but yes, it's pretty busy," he lamented.

"No swimming" signs can be seen on Fort Lauderdale beach due to strong winds and dangerous sea conditions.

The no-swimming advisory will be in effect at least until Monday.
