Miami has double the number of skyscrapers under construction compared to California

Miami continues to establish itself as one of the US territories that offers the most skyscrapers to its residents and international tourists. The situation is such that it currently has 90 towers under construction, which is twice as many as the state of California is building, according to a map created by a Reddit user.

In contrast, the state of California currently has 44 towers under construction throughout its cities, including several in the megacities of Los Angeles and San Francisco.


The City of the Sun is second only to New York, which is home to an impressive skyline filled with skyscrapers such as the popular One World Trade Center and the Central Park Tower. The analysis was based primarily on the ten skyscrapers under construction in each location that have more than ten floors.

One of the reasons why Miami has so many super-tall buildings under construction is undoubtedly the high rate of population growth, which obviously leads to a greater demand for housing in urban areas.

At the same time, the constantly prosperous real estate market is in a phase of expansion, which allows for an increase in new constructions. And closely linked to this is the focus of investors on the development of luxury properties; Florida alone has 132 skyscrapers in different stages of construction.

The Sunshine State's numbers are completely different from other regions in the country, especially those on the West Coast where the numbers are lower. This not only contributes to generating more housing for its residents, but also creates jobs in sectors such as construction and real estate services. On the other hand, it allows for increasing the value of properties in specific areas, changing the social outlook of various neighborhoods.

What is happening today in Miami could be a precedent for other territories to grow in the near future in this field. Although there are several factors that play a fundamental role, such as zoning policies and financial markets, the city of the sun is an example to follow to reflect on how cities can develop in the face of population growth and the different changes experienced by the real estate market.
