Luxury Miami hotel to close in 2025, resort to be built in its place

Luxury hotel in Miami that has been open for more than twenty years will close permanently in 2025, to be replaced by a two-tower condominium resort, picked up El Nuevo Herald.

The Mandarin Oriental on Brickell Key will close for good on May 31 next year, and the resort to be built in its place will open in 2030.


The project is called Mandarin Oriental, Miami and The Residences at Mandarin Oriental and will have a completely different look than the hotel has today.

The South Tower will house 228 residences and the North Tower will have 66 residences. The new complex will also include a new Mandarin Oriental hotel, with 121 rooms and 34 suites, 28 hotel residences, a spa and several restaurants.

General Manager Flavia Daudan-Caponi said in a statement that โ€œfor 25 years, Mandarin Oriental, Miami has been a beloved part of this vibrant city.โ€ They are โ€œdeeply grateful to our guests, colleagues and the Miami community for their loyalty and support.โ€

Swire Properties, the Hong Kong developer behind Brickell City Center, is partnering with Mandarin to build the complex, which is set to open in 2030.

The Mandarin Oriental on Brickell Key, in its more than two decades of operation, has been visited by celebrities such as Chrissy Teigen and Will Smith, in addition to being recognized for its famous Peruvian tapas and ceviche restaurant. La Mar, and the exclusive restaurant BLUE, which was run a few years ago by famed Miami chef Michelle Bernstein. The latter closed in 2019 before the pandemic, but the hotel continued to operate.


Likewise, the Mandarin Oriental received a Michelin key in 2024, for being one of the 10 hotels in Miami-Dade County that received mention in the first ratings of the prestigious French guide.
