José Daniel Daniel Ferrer enjoys living with his son Daniel José, after four years of unjust separationThe opposition leader of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) was imprisoned when the little boy was just one year old.
"Both happy after 3 and a half years apart. Little Daniel José is 5 years old and has only lived with his father for a year, a product of the evil and cruelty of the criminal dictatorship that oppresses our people. IMMEDIATE AND UNCONDITIONAL FREEDOM FOR ALL," wrote Ana Belkis Ferrer, sister of the dissident leader, alongside a photo of the two.
"Your father is a hero," "The blockade of my country and his family is just as hard," "May God bless you always, unconditional freedom," "It gives me great joy to see this brave man free," "My respects to you, may God give you good health and strength," hundreds of Cubans commented at the bottom of the image.
Ferrer, 54, has dedicated his life to the fight against the Cuban dictatorship, and was released from prison last Thursday after being arrested during the protests of July 11, 2021 in his native Santiago de Cuba, following his attempt to participate in a peaceful demonstration.
And despite the fact that his health has deteriorated in recent years in prison due to the beatings inflicted by the regime's executioners, the numerous hunger strikes he has undertaken, and the lack of medical attention, the opposition leader remains firm in his principles, and recently released this week he told the independent and international press that "he would rather die than surrender."
José Daniel refuses to go into exile and has made it clear that he will not abandon the fight until he sees a free Cuba.
"I will fight until my last breath for the freedom of my country," he declared this week, after denouncing the negotiation between Joe Biden's administration and the regime in Havana and the Vatican, which led to his and other political prisoners' recent release, as a betrayal and a disgrace.
