The U.S. Coast Guard on Tuesday said it would rapidly increase its resources to address illegal immigration in response to Trump's executive orders.

The surge will include additional ships, boats, aircraft and elite units to enhance Coast Guard operations at six sites, particularly along Florida's southeastern border.

The Coast Guard said the move was aimed at curbing large-scale illegal migration from Cuba and Haiti. Additionally, one area of focus would be the southern border of the United States adjacent to Mexico along the Pacific.

“Together, in coordination with our teammates at the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense, we will detect, deter, and interdict illegal migration, drug smuggling, and other terrorist or hostile activity before it reaches our border,” said Adm. Kevin Lunday, acting commandant of the Coast Guard.
