Lucky guy in South Florida took home record $1.600 billion Mega Millions jackpot, and has managed to keep his identity secret for the time being, News Channel 8 reported.
According to the Florida Lottery, the jackpot was claimed by Saltines Holdings, LLC, which elected to receive the winnings as a one-time lump sum payment of $794,248,882.
An LLC is a business structure in the US that protects its owners from personal liability for their debts or liabilities.
Because the prize winner claimed the money through an LLC, he did not have to reveal his identity, and while in Florida, where the ticket was claimed, the name of the owner of an LLC is a matter of public record, in Delaware, where the company is incorporated, the owner's identity can be safeguarded.
According to the Florida news outlet, the jackpot-winning ticket, sold at Publix located at 630 Atlantic Boulevard in Neptune Beach on August 8, surpassed the previous record of $1,537 billion, won in South Carolina on October 23, 2018.
The jackpot rose after 32 draws from April to August 2023, and the Florida Lottery said the winner also contributed $73,4 million to education in the state.
