FBI investigates new assassination attempt on Donald Trump

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was unharmed after shots were fired near his golf club in Florida, according to statements from his campaign and the US Secret Service. The incident appears to be the second assassination attempt against the former president in a span of two months.

Authorities said the former president was playing golf at the Trump International Golf Course when the incident occurred.

According to a statement from Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi, the Secret Service, along with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, is investigating a protective situation involving former President Donald Trump that took place shortly before 2 p.m.

According to multiple reports, the FBI announced Sunday that it is investigating an incident that appears to involve an assassination attempt against former President Trump at his golf club in Florida.

The incident occurred on the day the Republican candidate expressed his dislike of Taylor Swift on his Truth Social account, while his vice presidential running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), declared that he felt no remorse for spreading false narratives about Haitian immigrants, resulting in several threats in Springfield, Ohio.

According to several unnamed law enforcement sources, three media organizations have reported that Ryan Wesley Routh is the individual arrested following what officials described as an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

Authorities who spoke to The Associated Press and several media outlets said Routh pointed a rifle with a scope at Trump's Mar-a-Lago golf course.
