Owner of popular Cuban bakery in Miami reacts to allegations against his establishment

A popular Cuban bakery on Miami's Calle Ocho is facing a fraud accusation from a customer who claims the establishment refunded her counterfeit money after a purchase.

The incident sparked an immediate reaction from the establishment's owner, Dayron González, and comedian Andy Vázquez, who came to the owner's defense.

Located at 8566 SW on the renowned Calle Ocho, La Suiza Bakery enjoys a loyal customer base, largely due to the comedian's long-standing promotion.

The customer, via a TikTok video, claims that the establishment had scammed her out of two $100 bills.

"They told me my bills were counterfeit, and what they did was, the girl took them back to show them to the boss to see if they were fake or not, and the boss apparently gave her some counterfeit ones, and she gave them back to me," he recounted what happened after paying for his purchase, and the employee seemed to doubt the legitimacy of the cash. He also said he had filed a police report.

In a video posted on the bakery's official website, the owner expressed regret over the incident and explained that he had previously reviewed the security footage with Andy Vázquez. They concluded that the customer's actions did not indicate she was a victim of fraud.

"The weirdest thing of all is that if she was so sure the bills were hers and that they were exchanged for counterfeit ones, why didn't she say so right away? She walked away as if nothing had happened," Andy wrote on his Facebook page.

The owner, for his part, acknowledged that the inexperienced employee had made a mistake in the process by taking the money to the kitchen to show it to the customer, instead of confirming it in front of the customer.

"That's why, as soon as the girl leaves, I go out behind her to face the customer and explain that I'm not 100% sure, but that I thought the bills were counterfeit."

González stated that he has not been officially summoned by authorities. However, he expressed his intention to voluntarily go to the police station to verify any charges against him.

Some people on social media praise the honesty of the company and its staff, while others disapprove of how the situation was handled.

"I'm a customer at La Suiza, and the staff there are incapable of doing something like this." "You can't take the bills out of sight; they're checked in front of them. If not, they've been scammed." "The most notable thing is that instead of calling the police, which is what anyone would have done, what they did was try to publicly defame."
