A security camera at a home in Ave Maria, Florida, captured the moment two enormous alligators sneaked into the property's entrance.
The images show one of the alligators trying to stand on the door of the house.
Florida is in the midst of alligator mating season, and you can expect to find them near communities and residential areas.
Below is a set of tips that may be helpful when you encounter an alligator:
- Supervise children when playing in or near water.
- Swim only in designated areas.
- Swim only during the day. Alligators are most active between dusk and dawn.
- Keep pets away from waterways that may contain alligators. Dogs are natural prey for alligators, and their barking and playing can attract an alligator to the area.
- Never feed alligators or throw fish scraps into the water. You may not be intentionally feeding alligators, but the result can be the same.
- If you're bitten, defend yourself and provide as much noise and resistance as possible. Hitting, kicking, or poking the dog in the eyes may cause it to loosen its grip.
- Seek immediate medical help if you are bitten, as bites often cause serious infection.
- Contain alligators. Canines resemble alligators' natural prey, and their barking, as well as their playing, can attract an alligator to that area.
- Avoid feeding alligators or throwing fish scraps into the water. You may not intend to feed alligators, but the result could be the same.
- If you're bitten, defend yourself and make as much noise and resist as possible. Hitting, kicking, or pushing at the eyes could cause them to release their grip.
- Seek medical attention immediately if you are bitten, as these wounds often cause serious infections.
