Donald Trump will become the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl game

The White House has announced that President Donald Trump will be in attendance at Super Bowl LIX, a historic event as it marks the first time a sitting president has appeared in the game.

The president's presence at Sunday's game is expected to enhance security for an event already backed by a host of federal, state and local law enforcement personnel dedicated to ensuring the safety of visitors.

In a statement released Tuesday, the U.S. Secret Service, which is charged with ensuring the president's security, said it has had personnel on site for several days to prepare for his arrival. Trump plans to attend the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Thorough preparations and collaboration have been undertaken to ensure the well-being of all participants, athletes and staff, Secret Service representative Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement. This year, security protocols are more robust due to the presence of a sitting U.S. president at the event for the first time.

According to him, spectators of the event will soon receive additional details on the security measures they should expect.

Trump, a New York native who currently resides in Florida, has not revealed which team he supports.

On Tuesday at the White House, Trump decided not to answer a reporter's question about who would win the game.
