Immigrants, particularly Cubans in the United States, can rejoice that waiting times for applications for U.S. citizenship have decreased. This positive development provides hope and relief to many members of the immigrant community.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) reported that the average length of the naturalization process has been reduced to seven months, the fastest time in the past ten years.

According to Univision News, the process to obtain U.S. citizenship used to take between 18 and 24 months, which caused a lot of anxiety among immigrants seeking legal residency in the country.

A recent US naturalization policy report, published in April 2024, reveals that Cuba ranks seventh in terms of the largest population of residents living in the country, with a total of 1.314.330 people. Of this population, 64% have already obtained citizenship, leaving approximately 390.000 people, or 30%, eligible to potentially obtain citizenship in the near future.
