The Miami-Dade Aviation Department is making satisfactory progress on the construction of Concourse K, which is part of the expansion project planned for the South Terminal of Miami International Airport.

This week, airport authorities issued a request for design and construction services that will expire on May 23, in order to obtain the participation of several companies in the project.

The building will have three levels and will be located east of the South Terminal and Hall J, coinciding with the construction line limiting this terminal in order to maintain a uniform panorama in the area.

These levels are expected to include bays with sufficient capacity for the entry of three single-aisle, shorter-range or three wide-body aircraft. The plan also includes the establishment of remote hardstands for an additional three twin-aisle or five narrow-body aircraft.

In addition, larger spaces will be created for leisure. According to Miami-Dade's aviation director, who spoke to Global Miami, in the current context, VIP lounges are having a lot of acceptance, with high levels of demand.

The contract supporting the expansion in question is worth $621 million and is valid for four years, forming part of the significant investment of $6,800 billion dedicated to the maintenance, repair and modernization of the airport over the next 15 years, which will allow it to better cope with the considerable volume of passengers it receives annually.
