The city of Miami Beach is preparing for the start of Spring Break and has already taken strong measures including closing several streets.
Every Thursday to Sunday during the month of March:
- Beginning at 6 p.m. every Thursday through Sunday, the Miami Beach Police Department (MBPD) will implement a traffic management strategy aimed at alleviating congestion in the areas of South of Fifth (SoFi), West Avenue and Flamingo Park.
- Drivers can reach the SoFi area using Alton Road, Washington Avenue or Collins Avenue.
- Access to the Flamingo Park area is only permitted via Alton Road.
- Local access restrictions will be imposed on certain streets in the city to minimize traffic and improve ease of movement for residents and visitors to businesses.
Also, from Thursday, March 6 to Sunday, March 9; again from Thursday, March 13 to Sunday, March 16; and finally from Thursday, March 20 to Sunday, March 23.
From March 6-9, vehicle access to Ocean Drive will only be permitted starting at the northernmost available street, with an exit only at 5 Street. To minimize the risk of pedestrian-vehicle interaction, barricades will be installed along the west side of Ocean Drive.
