Roberto Gonzalez EchevarriaAccording to the blog Café Fuerte (www.cafefuerte.com), the White House has awarded Cuban academic Roberto González Echevarría the National Medal of Arts and Humanities of the United States. The ceremony was held at the White House alongside other great figures of culture in the United States. Roberto González Echevarría is known for Myth and Archive: a Theory of Latin American Narrative and The Pride of Havana: a History of Cuban Baseball (1999). Roberto González Echevarría was born in Sagua la Grande Villa Clara and emigrated from Cuba to the United States with his parents in 1959. Roberto González Echevarría is a source of pride for all Cubans, showing that Cuban culture is much more than music and dance, although we have plenty of that.
