Can you imagine buying a lottery ticket, having the chance to become a millionaire overnight?, and losing it due to being absent-minded. This may have happened to the mysterious player who lost the opportunity of a lifetime yesterday, Saturday, December 7, perhaps for not looking at the MegaMillions ticket he bought for the same date in 2023.
Yesterday, Saturday, was the deadline to claim the $197 million jackpot. The ticket was purchased on December 8, 2023, at a Chevron gas station in Encino, California, and the lucky numbers turned out to be 21, 26, 53, 66 and 70, in addition to Mega Ball 13.
However, one of the winners never claimed his prize. Another curiosity is that the two tickets that won the MegaMillions were sold in the same Californian establishment.
One of the prizes was claimed last summer, but the winner of the largest one never showed up.
"There's no way to know who had the ticket. It's a huge missed opportunity," said Carolyn Becker, a spokeswoman for the California Lottery.
Despite multiple calls from the lottery for players to check their tickets, the lucky winner never claimed his prize.
Part of the proceeds will go toward public education programs in California, in accordance with state lottery rules.
