Arajet, a Dominican airline, has begun operating flights between Miami and Santo Domingo. This new service could lower market prices, which would benefit U.S. residents, as well as Cubans and their loved ones in Cuba, allowing them to enjoy vacations in international destinations like Punta Cana.
The recent inauguration of this new route marks the arrival of Arajet in the United States. This service not only links Miami with Santo Domingo, but also improves connectivity to various Latin American cities, including Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, and others.
The airline, known for its low-cost approach, focuses on offering attractive fares to both expats and tourists. Víctor Pacheco, co-founder and leader of Arajet, believes that travel should be more affordable for everyone. This approach is reflected in ticket prices, which vary depending on the number of people interested and the availability, making it easy for passengers to select the lowest fare on Arajet's website, arajet.com.
Arajet's inaugural flight to Miami arrived safely at Miami International Airport (MIA). Ralph Cutié, director of aviation for Miami-Dade County, emphasized that this new route will contribute to increasing passenger traffic at this key airport. This service will attract a greater number of passengers, according to Cutié, who stated that last year, for the third consecutive year, they broke their own record with 56 million passengers.
Starting June 13, the airline will launch flights between Punta Cana and Miami, and on June 16, it will launch connections to Newark, allowing travelers from the New York region to explore a new market.
This low-cost airline operates flights with Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft, where customers can enjoy better seats in economy class, alcoholic beverages, and snacks at affordable prices. A ham and cheese croissant and a soft drink cost no more than seven dollars, and a Dominican beer or Chilean wine costs no more than six dollars.
In recent years, the airline has established itself as one of the best international airlines and plans to transport approximately 1.7 million people this year. With the support of Dominican investment and the firm Bain Capital, the company has demonstrated its expansion potential by providing more affordable flight options between the Caribbean and Latin America.
The Dominican Republic boasts an impressive hotel infrastructure with beautiful natural views and dreamy beaches. It's no coincidence that it's the most popular destination in the Caribbean and the fourth most popular in the entire region. In 2024, this Caribbean nation attracted more than 11 million tourists, who appreciate its safe political environment and the hospitality of its people.
In Miami, various travel agencies are launching travel deals aimed at allowing Cubans living in the United States to reunite with their loved ones in Cuba and spend a few days relaxing in the Dominican Republic. These deals include plane tickets, accommodations in fully-serviced hotels, and support in obtaining visas for family members in Cuba.
These projects provide an opportunity for Cuban families living abroad to experience meaningful moments together with their loved ones, breaking the limitations of distance and experiencing the warmth and charm of the Dominican Republic. They also benefit Cubans residing in the United States who are unable or unwilling to travel back to the communist regime.
