The popular American lottery game Mega Millions will no longer offer $2 tickets. Starting in April, the price of each ticket will increase to $5.
According to US media reports, the increase is one of many adjustments designed to offer greater rewards, better opportunities, and a more exciting experience for participants.
Joshua Johnston, who heads the Mega Millions consortium, said: โWe expect to see more billion-dollar prizes than ever before, which means more billionaires and many more millionaires as the jackpots continue to grow.โ
Beginning in April 2025, an updated Mega Millions system will introduce significant modifications that will improve the way players interact with the game:
-Parameters will be modified to improve the probability of winning the grand prize.
-Jackpots will accumulate more quickly and reach larger amounts more frequently.
-Prizes will start with larger amounts.
-Each ticket comes with an automatic prize multiplier of 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X or even 10X, along with the chance to win secondary prizes that could reach up to $10 million.
-The possibility of winning a prize equal to the ticket price has been eliminated. All guaranteed prizes exceed the $5 quota.
One of the most notable updates is the automatic addition of the multiplier, which previously required an additional payment. Now, all players can take advantage of this feature without paying anything extra thanks to the new unified pricing structure.
A representative for the group said research indicates that players tend to invest more money when they know the rewards will be larger and more frequent.
The new ticket price puts Mega Millions on par with other well-known lotteries in the United States, where $5 tickets are the standard.
